The Lodi District Grape Growers Association’s 2008 Jim Kissler Memorial Scholarship is available to those pursuing a career in agriculture, with an emphasis on viticulture, enology, agribusiness, agricultural engineering, or agriculture education.
The "Jim Kissler Memorial" Scholarship Program will award up to three (3), $2,000 scholarships and up to two (2), $1,000 in 2008.
The "Jim Kissler Memorial" Scholarship Fund has obtained an Advance Ruling on its charitable status as a 501 (c)(3) organization and donations are tax-deductible.
Applicant Eligibility
Have attended and/or graduated from a high school in Crush District 11, or have a relationship with a farming operation in Crush District 11. Past recipients are invited to reapply each year.
Applicant Essay
The applicant must submit an essay of 350 words or less explaining his or her career aspirations, including a plan to achieve these life goals and what has been done to prepare for the college experience. The essay must be dated and signed.
Transcripts
Include official, complete school transcript. Transcript may be a photocopy that bears the original signature of the proper school authority.
Two Letters of Recommendation
Include one letter of recommendation from a teacher. The letter may cover applicant’s ability, work habits, personality, and integrity.
Include one letter of recommendation from a responsible community leader. The person should not be related to the applicant. The letter may cover applicant’s participation in the community in terms of service, leadership skills, and outstanding recognition.
Letters may be originals or photocopies and must be limited to one side of a single sheet (8.5” x 11”) of paper, typed, and signed by the author.
Banquet Attendance
Recipients will be asked to attend the LDGGA Annual Banquet, February 5, 2009, at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi to accept their scholarship plaques. Travel expenses will be paid by the LDGGA scholarship program.
